ECORCHE OF THE HORSE
Fridays, 9-12 Noon, $140/4 consecutive classes, begins February 3
This class is an ongoing sculptural survey of equine musculoskeletal anatomy based on the classic Ecorche or muscle figure. Students will be provided with armatures designed specifically for building the complete equine skeleton and it’s muscles in non-hardening clay. Starting from basic volumetric shapes, the skeleton is then refined to full accuracy. The indivdual muscles are explained, their function and shape are demonstrated and they are then applied to one side of the complete skeleton.
Lectures on form and function are provided as well as ideas on the aesthetics of artistic anatomy.
Students will provide the non-sulfurated clay as suggested in the materials list as well as sculpting tools, drawing materials, and a sketchbook to monitor their progress. Upon completion of the Ecorche, the student can purchase the armature or elect to remove the clay . For a materials list click here
Students who have not previously studied at the Woodstock School of Art are required to pay a one time matriculation fee of fifteen dollars.
